WILLIAMSTOWN -- The Williams College men’s golf team won the NESCAC Spring Opener tournament this weekend. The Ephs led both days, finishing with a two-day total of 593 at the Taconic Golf Club. Williams was eight shots ahead of second-place Middlebury (601), while the Williams B team tied for third with Hamilton at 609. It’s the third straight win for Williams in the tournament that was played this past weekend. In the past, it had been known as the Williams Spring Opener. "I am really impressed with the team’s effort the last two days. To shoot the scores we shot with the limited amount of practice we have had was really impressive," Williams coach Josh Hillman said. "I give the guys a lot of credit for the efforts put forth. Trinity’s Greg Palmer was medalist. He shot a 3-under-par 68 in the first round and shot 3-over 74 on Sunday for a two-day total of even-par 142. Palmer finished five strokes ahead of Williams’ Grant Raffel and Hamilton’s Greg Scott. Both golfers shot 74 on Saturday and 73 on Sunday for a 147 total. There were Williams golfers all over the top 10. Jake Godenning finished tied for fourth at 148 along with Max Elgart from the Ephs’ B Team. Tong Liu, also from the B Team, was eighth at 150 while Cody Semmelrock was ninth at 151 and Williamstown’s Dylan Dethier was tied for 10th at 153. Williams plays in the Little Three Championship at home on Wednesday and then the NESCAC Tournament this coming weekend at Middlebury. SOUTH HADLEY -- Georgianna Salant was medalist at the annual Jack Leaman Invitational, but her Williams women lost a tiebreaker by three strokes to finish second at The Orchards. Williams and Ithaca both finished with two-day totals of 644. The tiebreaker went to Ithaca. Salant led wire-to-wire. She shot 3-over-par 149 over the two days. She was four strokes ahead of Sharon Li of Ithaca. Williams’ Tracey Kimm was tied for sixth at 14-over, 160. WILLIAMSTOWN -- It was a rough weekend for the Williams men’s tennis team, as the Ephs went 0-2. After dropping a non-league match to Skidmore on Saturday, Williams hosted Amherst and the Lord Jeffs got out of town with a 5-4 win. Williams won two of the three doubles points, but won only two of the six singles matches. The deciding match came at No. 2 singles as Amherst’s Chris Dale dropped the opening set before beating Conrad Harron 5-7, 6-1, 6-2. AMHERST -- The Williams men won their 26th consecutive Little Three championship on Saturday. Williams finished with 159 points, while Amherst had 128 and Wesleyan finished with 82. Among the highlights for Williams, Reid Pryzant set a PR with a time of 15.28 seconds to win the 110-meter hurdles, while the Ephs finished first through fourth in the 1,500. Aldis Inde was first in 4:00.74. Pryzant also won the pole vault while Matt Marcarelli’s shot put throw of 13.10 meters was good enough to give him his first collegiate victory. PITTSFIELD -- Miss Hall’s (3-1) picked up its third win on the season due to its strong doubles play. At doubles, Faith Smalley and Emila Ren (No. 2) and Carolina Seltzman and Sophie Harcleroad (No. 3) picked up two crucial points, helping clinch the victory. Miss Hall’s coach Richard Butler said Phoebe Spare at No. 2 singles and Qiqi Cai had strong matches as well. Singles -- 1. Elkanah Linder (VA) def. Harnoor Mann 6-3, 6-1; 2. Phoeboe Spare (MH) def.
