If approved, the new bike boulevard would run along city streets from Parkade Center on Business Loop 70 West to the MKT Trail entrance near Garth Avenue and Stewart Road. The city's first bike boulevard is on Windsor and East Ash streets. According to a council report, the project is estimated to cost $460,000 and will include the construction of an eight-foot pedway on the north side of Worley Street between Alexander and Banks avenues and accessible ramps, crosswalks, pedestrian signals and raised concrete medians throughout the route to enhance safety. The council had been scheduled to hold a public hearing on the bike boulevard project tomorrow night. In its report, city staff recommended the council approve a motion directing staff to proceed with drafting detailed plans for the project. Chadwick, whose ward encompasses the northern half of the proposed bike boulevard, said project maps were not clearly labeled and the council report incorrectly states that Aldeah Avenue connects to Worley Street. North of Broadway, Aldeah becomes Alexander, which connects to Worley. "We needed to clearly label the map and update the report," Chadwick said. She said she is "highly supportive" of the project and that feedback from residents gathered at interested parties meetings has been generally supportive. Steve Sapp, a spokesman for the city's Public Works Department, said the public hearing on the project likely would be moved to one of the council's two regular meetings next month.
